چکیده

Recent outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) have spread from SouthEast Asia to sixty-two Asian, Middle East, African and European countries. H5N1 viruses isolated from dead water birds in Mongolia and Hokkaido, Japan on the way back to their nesting areas in Siberia in April to May 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009 were genetically closely related to those isolated from birds in China, Iraq, Croatia, Nigeria, Korea, and Japan, but different from those from poultry in Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. It is a serious concern that these HPAI viruses may perpetuate in the lakes where migratory water birds nest in summer. In the intensive surveillance studies on avian influenza fulfilled in autumn from 2004 to 2009 in Mongolia and Japan, no HPAI virus was isolated from migratory water birds that flew from Siberia, indicating that the virus has not yet dominantly perpetuated in their nesting lakes in Siberia. Careful surveillance of avian influenza in migratory water birds is to be continued as far as HPAI viruses are circulating in Eurasian countries.

Designing of A Multi-epitope Recombinant Protein, Consisting of Several Conserved Epitopes from Hemagglutinin Protein of the H1N1 and H5N1 Strains of Influenza Virus by Immunoinformatics Approaches

Introduction: According to marked advances in bioinformatics studies, development of influenza vaccines has been greatly modified in many studies. In this study, we have designed a multi-epitope recombinant protein, consisting of several conserved epitopes from Hemagglutinin protein of the H1N1 and H5N1 strains of Influenza virus by immunoinformatics approaches. Materials and Methods: The regis...

Molecular Surveillance of Avian Influenza in Bird Parks of Tehran, Iran

BACKGROUND: Avian influenza (AI) viruses have been isolated from a wide diversity of free-living avian species representing several orders. Since 1998, H9N2 AI outbreaks have been one of the major problems in Iranian poultry industry. In 2006, H5N1 was reported in swans in the north of Iran first , but until now there has been no official report from commercial flocks in Iran. OBJECTIVES: The...

Perspective of Influenza Research in Korea NIH

influenza virus (HPAIV) strain H5N1 has resulted in serious economic losses to the poultry industry, many countries including Vietnam have introduced mass vaccination of poultry with H5N1 virus vaccines. We found that eggs obtained from chicken farms and supermarkets in Vietnam contain H5N1-specific immunoglobulins (IgY) that provide protection against infections with HPAIV H5N1 and related H5N...

Prophylactic and Therapeutic Efficacy of Avian Antibodies Against Influenza Virus H5N1 and H1N1 in Mice

BACKGROUND Pandemic influenza poses a serious threat to global health and the world economy. While vaccines are currently under development, passive immunization could offer an alternative strategy to prevent and treat influenza virus infection. Attempts to develop monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have been made. However, passive immunization based on mAbs may require a cocktail of mAbs with broade...

Influenza viruses in Thailand: 7 years of sentinel surveillance data, 2004–2010

BACKGROUND The re-emergence of avian influenza A (H5N1) in 2004 and the pandemic of influenza A (H1N1) in 2009 highlight the need for routine surveillance systems to monitor influenza viruses, particularly in Southeast Asia where H5N1 is endemic in poultry. In 2004, the Thai National Institute of Health, in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, established infl...
